Community Religious Empowerment Based on Religious Moderation in Kandangsapi Village, Jenar District, Sragen Regency

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the religious conditions in Sidomulyo Hamlet, Kandangsapi Village, Jenar District, Sragen Regency, which include low Quranic literacy skills among the elderly, a lack of public understanding of religious moderation, and suboptimal education on the impact of gadget use on children from a moral development perspective. The purpose of this activity is to improve the religious abilities of the elderly, foster an attitude of tolerance between religious communities, and equip children with an awareness of using technology wisely. The implementation method uses a direct mentoring approach (participatory action) in the form of Quranic literacy guidance, socialization, and children's creative activities. The activity was carried out on March 1-31, 2023, targeting the elderly, mothers of Islamic study groups, and children of TPA/TPQ. The results of the activity showed an increase in understanding of the hijaiyah letters in the elderly, a growing awareness of interfaith tolerance among mothers of Muslimat Fatayat NU, and an increase in children's awareness of the positive and negative impacts of gadgets. This activity demonstrates that a religious moderation-based community service approach is effective in strengthening Islamic brotherhood and religious literacy at the village level.
