Economic Empowerment and Community Health Through Waste-Based Entrepreneurship Training in Kandangsapi Village, Jenar District, Sragen Regency

Abstract

Kandangsapi Village boasts significant economic potential, with the majority of its residents engaged in agriculture, home industries, and small-scale trade. However, this has not been matched by optimal waste management and product marketing skills. Furthermore, public awareness of dental and oral health among toddlers remains low. This community service activity aims to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the community by utilizing household waste into marketable products and increasing awareness of dental and oral health. The implementation method involved participatory training, including making aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, training in making and packaging pickled fruit, and outreach on dental and oral health. The activity, held from March 14-18, 2023, targeted adolescents and housewives in Kandangsapi Village, as well as mothers who are Posyandu (Integrated Service Post) cadres. The results showed increased entrepreneurial skills and motivation among adolescents and housewives, as well as an increased understanding among mothers about the importance of maintaining children's dental health. This activity demonstrates that waste-based economic empowerment and health education can work hand in hand as a sustainable community service strategy.
